IMPORTANT MAY DATES TO REMEMBER: GUILD
AUDITIONS ARE ALMOST OVER - SATURDAY, APRIL 26TH. It is now time to relax and get ready
for the Annual Awards Recital. No
more scales and chords until September.
We now drop the repetitive pieces (except for the Recital Pieces). Lessons will now return to advancing
and growing in our music.
SPRING
ANNUAL AWARDS RECITAL, MAY 18th, 3:00 PM, RANCHO RESORT BALLROOM - This is the culmination of our full
year of work. It is our chance to
show you in performance how really wonderfully we have advanced. The students and I plan and work
at this presentation more than anything else we do all year and it is a huge
disappointment to the students and to their teacher when the student misses
this event. This is why it is a COMPULSORY
Event. Recital
participants are required to dress in their Sunday best clothes. If the student feels good about their
appearance then it will make the performance even more special. There were complaints about shoes with
wheels on our very expensive ballroom floor last year. It took a lot of repair work to remove
the streaks and I got a pass but this year they will charge me for any damage
to the floor. PLEASE, NO
WHEELS! This means all
participants and all guests, thank you. I
encourage any refreshments you would like to share with us at the recital;
however, it is not a requirement and I do not want anyone missing or tardy
because of refreshments.
PARENT,
TEACHER, STUDENT CONFERENCES – I have decided that I need to take some quality time
with my students and their parents.
As you know I am always trying to work on ways to better my teaching
and I want the students and their families to understand what we are trying
to achieve at lessons. Here’s my plan. The week after recital is the best
time to sit down with both parents (if possible) and literally plan the whole
year of 2008-2009. We can set
goals, plan what activities we will participate in and types of music we will
study for the summer. We
can discuss practice time, progress made this year and expectations for next
year. We can discuss the
summer lessons and plan the make ups for vacation absences. Those families with more than one
child taking piano can discuss all the students during the same conference. All students being discussed must
attend that conference because the student needs to be involved in the
discussions. |
